Swimrun Portugal, Algarve 2022

– May 3, 2022

On May 8,  Swimrun Portugal is returning to the Algarve for its second year, this time in Lagoa, kickstarting the sports season.

The global phenomenon of Swimrun already counts more than 700 races in various European countries, with more than 8,000 “finishers”. The sport started in Sweden in 2006 with the “Otillo” race (meaning Island to Island), which started off as a bet between friends who embraced the challenge of racing between the islands of Stockholm’s archipelago, swimming between them in a total distance of 75km, including 10km in open waters.

Portugal soon caught up with the new sport along with other countries around the world, and in June 2017 hosted the Arrábida Swimrun” – the first Swimrun competition in Portugal, where more than 200 athletes participated
