To celebrate the special milestone, the Local Council has prepared a vast programme of events throughout the year
– April 11, 2023
In 1773, King D. José redefined the administrative areas of the Algarve and created the municipality of Lagoa.
“Throughout two and a half centuries, the people of Lagoa worked to maintain and develop their administrative territory. By linking the ocean with the river, they were able to secure a piece of land, enriching it socially, culturally and economically.
To celebrate Lagoa’s 250 years is to take pride in its past, to be mindful of the present and to dream about the future,” says Mayor Luís Encarnação, in a statement found on the Council’s website.
To celebrate the anniversary, the Council has organised a series of events and activities to highlight Lagoa’s cultural heritage and its people, including conferences, workshops and educational initiatives, along with art exhibitions and performances throughout the year.
